THE SQUARE AS A TRANSITION

The project consists of two building blocks strategically placed to optimise the sunlight in the rooms and guarantee the privacy of the users by avoiding crossed views. The layout of these volumes establishes a direct relationship with the central square, enhancing its role as a connector and articulating space for the complex.

The student residence in Malaga is organised around a central square in the semi-basement, conceived as a space that reinterprets the limit between the exterior and the interior. This carefully modelled area acts as a node of social and functional integration, promoting fluid spatial relations and continuous transitions.

Access to the square is resolved by means of a system of staggered steps, which is inserted within the building's volumetry. This resource not only facilitates the connection between the exterior and interior levels, but also generates a meeting and living space, configuring an architectural element that articulates the project.

NATURE AS PART OF THE DESIGN

The design of the immediate surroundings prioritises landscape integration through a significant density of vegetation, which acts as a natural frame for the building's geometries and as a filter that softens the relationship with the surrounding urban fabric. The vegetation is not limited to the perimeter of the project, but penetrates strategically into the architectural spaces, generating a direct interaction between the landscape and the living areas.

In addition to their aesthetic contribution, these green areas play an essential role in the environmental sustainability of the project. They contribute to thermal regulation, improve air quality and offer spaces for rest and recreation that enhance the well-being of the users. This approach responds to a contemporary vision of architecture, where nature and the built environment merge to generate a positive impact on both the environment and its inhabitants.
